What is Adenoid Problem in Children
As there are tonsils in the throat, similarly there are adenoids behind the nose.
Tonsils are visible when the mouth is wide open, but adenoids are not visible. To see enlarged adenoids xray should be done.
Adenoids help to keep the body healthy by trapping bacteria and viruses that enter our bodies through breathing and swallowing.
When children have a cold cough, the tonsils and adenoids get enlarged.
When a cold cough subsides, the tonsils and adenoids become smaller.
If the child is suffering from cold cough again and again, then the size of tonsils and adenoids remain enlarged permanently.
Symptoms of Enlarged Adenoids
- Due to enlarged adenoids it is hard to breathe through the nose, and thus the child breathes through the mouth.
- Snoring at night while sleeping. Due to not breathing properly, the sleep remains disturbed, and the child becomes lazy during the day.
- Due to frequent throat infections, ears also get involved and gradually hearing problems start in the child.
