Allopathic Treatment
Before we discuss about homeopathy let us know the allopathic treatment of psoriasis.
When an allopathic doctor treats a psoriasis patient, he uses three step method which is also known as ‘1-2-3’ approach.
These steps are decided on various factors like severity of disease, extent of area, type of psoriasis, patient’s response to treatment. Now, we will discuss about these 3 steps.
- Topical treatment: In these medicines are applied on the skin in the form of cream and ointments.
- Phototherapy: In this skin is treated with light.
- Systemic treatment: In these medicines are given internally.
Potential disadvantages of allopathy treatment
In allopathy corticosteroids are used to treat psoriasis. But steroids stop working as time passes.
Topical treatment suppresses mild to moderate psoriasis. These are not recommended for long term use because of increased risk of skin cancer & lymphoma.
Overuse of steroid creams can cause side effects like thinning of skin, acne, stretch marks, white spots, increased hair growth, steroid rosacea, glaucoma, tachyphylaxis and so on.
But the most frustrating thing is that psoriasis rebounds as soon as you stop applying steroid cream; and it becomes more worse than before.
Light therapy, UVB phototherapy, photochemotherapy or PUVA, excimer laser is associated with lots of side effects like nausea, headache, fatigue, burning, itching, squamous cell cancer, melanoma cancer.
Pregnancy should be avoided during phototherapy treatments as these may cause defects in newborn.
Generally, three types of medicines are prescribed in systemic treatment – methotrexate, cyclosporine and retinoids. These have serious side effects like liver damage, decreased RBCs, WBCs, platelets and so on.
Homeopathic treatment
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder and homeopathy treats autoimmune disorders very effectively.
According to homeopathy psoriasis is an external manifestation of an internal disorder. That is why homeopathy treats psoriasis from its roots.
Homeopathic medicines are safe, natural, gentle, without side effects and we don’t use local ointments.
According to my clinical practice, that I have been doing since 1997, only classical constitutional homeopathic treatment works in psoriasis.
Patients should refrain from readymade patent medicines because these do not work and instead make the symptoms worse.
With homeopathy frequency and severity of scaling of skin, itching, scarring, cracks, hardness, redness reduces.
During treatment medicines are given to improve the tendency of the patient to take stress; this helps in treatment of psoriasis.
Psoriasis is an obstinate and chronic disease which takes time to improve. Thus, the sufferer should keep patience and cooperate with his doctor.
According to my experience it takes about 2 months for positive results to start; and it may take 1 to 2 years to treat psoriasis effectively.
In research conducted at the Institute of Social Medicine, Berlin, Germany, it was found that classical constitutional homeopathic treatment improves symptoms and quality of life of psoriasis patients and reduces their dependence on allopathic medicines.
Number of medicines
There are around 115 medicines in homeopathy for psoriasis which are very effective.
Now which of these medicines are to be given, in how much potency, how many times in a day – this is a complicated process which only a highly qualified and experienced doctor can do.
A sensible doctor never prescribes on the name of the disease psoriasis. He takes complete history of the patient, then studies his symptoms properly.
After this he selects the medicines keeping in mind the susceptibility of the patient and decides upon the potency and repetition of medicines.
In psoriasis I prescribe for one month and then review the patient after that. Every month the case is studied again thereby finetuning the medicines and their potencies.
Nothing is fixed in homeopathic treatment; and remedies change according to the condition of the patient. As I always say, “homeopathy is not readymade, it is tailormade” and the treatment constantly changes according to the situation of the patient.
How much improvement you get in psoriasis depends upon your choice of doctor. These days KYC is done in banks and mutual funds; I think patients should also do KYD – Know Your Doctor.
Name of medicines?
Friends, in this blog I have not named any medicines, nor I have promoted medicines of any company; because by doing so I will be playing with your health and may harm you. A sane doctor will never do this.
Complications of psoriasis
It is very important to treat psoriasis properly as it can cause serious complications such as psoriatic arthritis, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, uveitis, obesity, diabetes, high BP, kidney disease and so on.
